This project involved providing the customer with a turnkey access platform for train car maintenance. A new structure was fabricated then built on-site with a small crane that fit inside the Yard building. This structure is approx 300 L.F. and 14’ tall with several staircases for access at multiple points. A total of (5) platforms were built in New Carrollton Yard. One platform, in particular, involved the design and installation of a swivel platform flap to allow the train to be lifted and lowered without structure getting in the way of the trains’ dynamic envelope. The task of installing a swivel platform included working with a German fabricator, that was specified in the contract by the owner and implementing their product to work with our steel structure. Several tests were performed to assure quality and function, and after a few adjustments, the swivel platform system was fully functional.
